“Out went fuddy-duddy floral decor and in came sleek, modern elegance; the genteel Colonnade Hotel’s renovations are boutique hip, but with a smart, individual edge to the design. Rooms are a blend of geometric patterns, blonde woods, chrome and soothing chocolate browns with purple accents. A shimmering rooftop pool, 11 stories above the city streets, is another enticement to check in. The art deco-inspired bar offers great cocktails and happy hour deals, and the excellent ground floor restaurant, Brasserie Jo…, was well ahead of Boston’s current taste for authentic French brasseries. If its coq au vin and steak frites don’t appeal, the South End’s myriad eateries and bars are close at hand.”
